I Voted Today.

I urge everyone to go to your city's government website and request an absentee ballot. They will mail it to your house, you can fill it out in the privacy of your own home and you can mail it back. You have until 8pm the day of the election to do so. This is plenty of time to research the different candidates and make an educated vote. Also, you can avoid the long lines, the glitches and delays they're already predicting. Make your voice heard and have your vote counted. I did my civic duty today. It's time for you to do yours.

Tropical storm Kyle is supposed to become a hurricane today and come dangerously close to Maine Sunday afternoon/evening. Maine hasn't had a hurricane since 1991. As of now we should only get some rain and high waves & high wind, but if it shifts even the slightest bit west, we could take a direct hit. They are expecting it to be in a low level Category One. Crazy.

I have a few things on my mind. Some may seem trivial, others not so much. It's up to you which are which. First of all, I went through and read a lot of other blogs today. I was really surprised at how many people use their blogs simply to gripe and complain about their everyday lives. I hope my blog isn't that. I know there are times I climb up on my soap box, but I do hope that I don't come off as a whiner with nothing better to do. I do try to approach a lot of my gripes with a sense of humor. That said, allow me to bitch about a few things.

I was going to write about Clay Aiken's coming out being about as newsworthy as a hot day in Miami, but there are more important things we should be concerning ourselves with. Mark Buse is John McCain's Chief of Staff. Mark Buse is gay. He is a self-loathing homosexual who has voted against just about every kind of gay legislature that has ever been brought to the table. There is no room for self-haters in politics. Especially ones who can help dictate policy when it comes to basic human rights. Mark Buse works for John McCain who is homophobic. And his running mate Sarah Palin is one of the most homophobic people we've ever had run for office. If she gets into office, we as a gay community will have life as we know it in jeopardy. People don't think one person can do that much damage, but watch the film "Bent" sometime and see how one man, Adolf Hitler, toppled the gay community in Berlin in the late 30's and early 40's. You will be horrified and you will realize that it could happen again.

We had dinner and drinks at The Saltwater Grille last night in South Portland. We were joined by our friend Jes Nolette (the esteemed owner of our favorite hangout Flask Lounge), Charity, the hostess, Jordan, waitress extraordinaire and our waiter was Zach. We started with drinks, I had a Jim Beam on the rocks with a Shipyard (a beer brewed here in Portland) beer back, Russ had a Kettle One, soda and lime and Jes had a Stoli Martini with a side car. Then we ordered the calamari appetizer. It was the biggest plate of calamari I've ever seen as an appetizer. It was really good, I mean REALLY good. Then Russ had the swordfish on butternut squash pasta and I had the fried haddock. Dinner was absolutely amazing and it was made even better by the fun we had with Jes, Zach and the girls. I do think Saltwater Grille is my new favorite place.
