I did it. I finally succombed. I gave in. I caved. I bit the bullet. I'm officially on MySpace.com @ http://www.myspace.com/wilwhalen. For months now, friends have been telling me that I needed to join My Space as it's the best way to promote yourself and network. Man, were they right. What an amazing thing My Space is. I will say this, it's not for everybody and if I had children teenage or younger, I'd watch them VERY closely and monitor their use of the site. As a DJ and Promoter is allows me to post events, invite people to events and promote the bar, as well as myself as a DJ and the individual artists who play at the bar. I'm happy to be a member of MySpace and wish I had thought of it. I have a blog on MySpace too, but it's just where I write about music, but I think you have to be a MySpace member to view it. http://blog.myspace.com/wilwhalen That's why I'll keep this one going for my readers!
Another favorite website of mine to visit when I'm bored is www.youtube.com. On You Tube, you can view videos from your favorite artists (current and vintage), clips from movies & tv shows and people's home movies. There is some funny shit on that site! It's only been around 6 months or so, but it's become amazingly popular. I read in USA Today that talent scouts and agents watch that site closely and people have actually scored production deals just by posting a video of themself on the site. Log on and type "Fashion House" in the search engine. You'll get clips from a new tellanovella coming on this fall starring Bo Derek and Morgan Fairchild. The clips are hilarious! Even better, my friend Rick Andreoli is one of the writers! Go Rick!
A few other sites worth checking out are: www.thetellynelly.com where my buddy and occasional partner in crime Nate Towne serves up the dish on everything gay on TV. Trust me, he doesn't miss anything. If the most radom and obscure television show even hints at something homoerotic, he'll talk about it. He must have the finest tuned gaydar on the planet! He also rocks to merry mofo (pronounced moe foe) in a grandilicious way.....whatever the hell that means! For the latest in celebrity gossip go to www.thesuperficial.com and www.defamer.com. If you want to buy cds from lesser known artists go to www.cdbaby.com. The cds are affordable and the artists make much more per cd than they do selling through national chains.
This Saturday, Mark Nelson will be playing at The Springstreet Sessions. To hear my favorite song by Mark, simply log onto my page on My Space and his song "Sophist" will play. He's amazing. I'm hoping to get a good turnout this time as he's a talent VERY worthy hearing.
On a random side note, did someone move Maine to Tornado Alley and no one told me? What's with this midwestern like storm weather we've been having lately? Geez. Funny how the government just ignores global warming when the proof of it is literally falling from the sky. Don't believe me? Well just ask two of my co-workers who got caught in a hail storm in New Hampshire last week and both of their vehicles sustained about 10 grand in damages. Or you can ask the Drug Enforcement agency in Augusta Maine who's roof was ripped off by 100 mile winds earlier this week. Or ask the guy who's truck was picked off the highway by a tornado in New Hampshire this past spring. Now they're saying that the ocean temp up here is so high, we'll probably take a direct from any hurricane that comes this far north. For anyone outside of New England, most hurricanes weaken significantly before they get up here because the ocean is so cold. Portland hasn't take a direct hit from a hurricane since Hurricane Bob in 1991. I'm strangely excited at the prospect though. I know, I'm weird like that.
As always, thanks for reading and have a great weekend!
